SAMPLE NTDB SEARCHES ON STAT-USA Unless otherwise noted the following suggested search strategies should be done using the Query Builder Form. Don't try to do any of these searches until you have read all the STAT-USA search instruction screens. STAT-USA is at http://www.stat-usa.gov. Market Research Report (including Industry Sector Analysis and International Market Insights) searches: location brazil and title wine A broader search would be: location brazil and all words wine The broadest search would be: all words brazil and all words wine Note: you can also broaden searches by using the OR connector. Example: location mexico and title textile or title apparel Country Commercial Guide searches: location brazil Country Specific Databases search (for general background information use the Query box not the Query Builder Form). Before typing in your search, change the number of titles to display from 50 to 150, and in the query box type in the following type of search: location=brazil Merchandise Trade Exports or Imports by Commodity* searches: all words wine and all words chile Merchandise Trade Exports or Imports by Country location chile Note: you can broaden your search by selecting the entire NTDB database and doing a search like the following: title mexico and title exports (or imports, as appropriate) Commercial Service International Contacts and Trade Leads (TOPs) searches: location brazil and all words wine *You can also search by 10-digit Harmonized (HS) number rather than by product name. For exports Schedule B numbers can be searched, for imports Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) numbers can be searched. To locate Schedule B numbers, use the entire Schedule B book (to locate it on STAT-USA Query the entire NTDB: program="schedule b"). It is also available on the Census Bureau's web site (http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/www/sched_b.html). The Harmonized Tariff Schedule is available on the Customs Service web site (http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/imp-exp/rulings/harmoniz).
