Cassebaums Help to Launch Study Carrel Project

Ann Arbor Residents Janet (BA, LSA, '56) and Bill (JD, LAW, '56) Cassebaum were delighted to be among the first to respond to the University Library's Name-A-Study-Carrel project with a gift of $5,000. Their contribution will make it possible to refurbish one of the carrels in the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library with new carpeting, fresh paint, a reading lamp, and a comfortable chair. Their gift will also help to build the Library's endowment fund. In appreciation, the Library will install a small plaque on the door of the carrel honoring the Cassebaums.

For decades, University of Michigan students have made good use of the 250 carrels in the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library. The carrels are available to undergraduate and graduate students on a first-come-first-served basis. Time has taken its toll on the carrels, and they are in need of refurbishing.

"We were excited to learn about the Library's carrel renovation project and thought it was a great way for us to make a gift that would have an impact," said Janet. "We hope other alumni will also support the project," added Bill.
