Bequest Language

Suggested Language for Bequest Provisions:

This suggested language is applicable only to an expendable unrestricted bequest. This language is intended to provide examples, not as legal advice. The University recommends that you seek legal counsel regarding your personal circumstances, your wishes for your estate and the preparation of necessary documents.

1. Specific bequest
"I give and devise to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation having the control and management of the University of Michigan,
[Select one of the following clauses, either (a) or (b)]:

a) the sum of _______________, [or]
b) the following property:________________,


[Select one of the following clauses, either (i) or (ii)]:

i) to be used for the benefit of the University Library for the following purpose:_________________________. [or]
ii) to be used for University Library purposes determined in the University Librarian's discretion."

2. Residual bequest
"All (or ____%) of the residue of my estate, I give and devise to the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Michigan constitutional corporation having the control and management of the University of Michigan,
[Select one of the following clauses, either (i) or (ii)]:

i) to be used for the benefit of the University Library for the following purpose:____________________________. [or]
ii) to be used for University purposes determined in the University Librarian's discretion."
