- The Fine Arts Library provides reserves service for History of Art courses 300 level and above as well as first-year seminars. Contact University Reserves for other History of Art classes.
- Only an instructor or a designated proxy may request course reserves.
- Items will be taken off reserve during the semester only at the request of the instructor. All items will be taken off reserve following the last day of examinations.
- Reference books and cannot be placed on reserve. Individual journal articles from bound journals should be made available through electronic reserve or photocopied and placed on closed reserve.
- Photocopied materials must be placed on reserve at the circulation desk (not left in the reading room) in order to ensure that items are not stolen.
- Instructor personal copies will be security taped and kept behind the circulation desk on closed reserve unless other arrangements are made.
- The library will purchase materials not owned by the University Library system as quickly as possible. Advanced notice is appreciated.
- Limited space in our reserve reading room necessitates a limit of 50 books per course.

With all course reserve requests
- Complete and accurate information will result in quicker processing.

Open
reserves
-
Reserve books are grouped by course and shelved in the reserve/current journal reading room.
- Reserve books may be browsed in the reading room or
discharged for use outside of the library (overnight
if checked out within one hour of closing).
- Books will circulate for 2 hours unless the instructor requests otherwise (libary-use only and 4 hours are also available).
- Occasionally, a book may be marked for "Library Use Only" by staff.
- Limited space in our reserve reading room necessitates a limit of 50 books per course.
Closed
reserves
- Journal
articles as well as books from the Fine Arts Library special collections
must be kept on reserve behind the circulation desk.
- Other items usually
placed on closed reserve include Coursepacks, CD-Roms, other alternative
media, and instructor personal copies.
- Items on closed reserve may be
used for two hours within the library.
Electronic
Reserves
- Electronic reserves often take longer to process. Please submit requests as early as possible.
- Journal articles, book chapters, and
other materials such as a course syllabus may be made available to students
online. Links to existing electronic materials can also be added to a reserve list.
- Please inform Fine Arts Library staff
if you require duplicate copies of electronic materials on closed reserve
in the Library.
- Electronic
course reserve materials are subject to copyright laws and fair use
provisions. In general, only limited selections from copyrighted works may
be put on reserve (for example, a chapter from a book or an article from a journal).
- In order to ensure the best quality, originals are preferred. Title and copyright pages, as well as accompanying endnotes and illustrations are included. High quality photocopies including these elements may be used.
