Chicago-based Akvavit Theatre performs a staged reading of a play by Swedish poet and dramatist Kristina Lugn, followed by discussion with Lugn and the actors.
Lugn touches subjects of loneliness, death and middle-age crises with irony, cynicism and black humour. A beloved and appreciated playwright in Sweden, her plays have been staged at various prestigious Swedish theaters, including Teater Brunnsgatan Fyra, a small independent theater she runs in Stockholm. She has published seven books of poetry, but is now as well-known for her dramatic works as she is her poetry.
The Author's Forum is a collaboration between the U-M Institute for the Humanities, University Library, Great Lakes Literary Arts Center, & Ann Arbor Book Festival. Additional support for this event is provided by the Scandinavian Program at the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures with support from SWEA-Michigan, the Swedish Institute, and the Helen Zell Writers' Program.
