Creating (and Commissioning) Ebooks

A workshop given on May 10, 2012, for Enriching Scholarship. 

 

Where do ebooks come from, and how can you get one onto your smartphone or computer? How about thirty of them? This session aims to give guidelines for a) how to create your own ebooks from the public domain or from personal materials, and b) commissioning work by outside-of-UM vendors to create any number of ebooks from both print and digital source material. This will include advice from how to find a vendor to making sure you’re getting your money’s worth on the final product. We will also touch on different ebook formats, such as PDFs and EPUBs, and how format factors in to the creation process.
