The Digital Media Commons (DMC) provides faculty and students access to a state-of-the-art multimedia facility; visualization and virtual reality technologies, and it is a development center for new collaboration technologies. The Digital Media Commons consists of several labs and provides the physical space for projects that make up the Commons. Labs that make up the DMC include:

At the heart of the DMC is a specially-trained staff, the latest digital tools, and unique facilities to enable the exploration of rich digital media for teaching and learning research, collaboration and creative expression. Media consultants and instructional technologists work closely with students and faculty by training on the use of digital tools, collaborating on projects, or providing direction to appropriate resources, including:
- UM3D Lab: rapid prototype printing, motion capture, modeling and animation, visualization
- Design Lab One: collaboration and peer-to-peer learning
- Multimedia Workrooms: video and audio editing
- GroundWorks: media conversion, scanning, video editing, audio recording
- Poster Shop: large-format printing
- Video Studio: video recording
- Audio and Electronic Music Studios: music composition and recording
- Gallery: exhibition space
- Training Rooms (computer labs), Conference Rooms and Study Rooms
