Saliva and Susceptibility to Dental Caries

  1. Are individuals with teeth and altered salivary physiology at increased risk for dental carious lesions compared with individuals of the same age and dentition with normal salivary physiology?
  2. Are individuals with teeth and altered salivary biochemistry (electrolytes/small molecules) at increased risk for dental carious lesions compared with individuals of the same age and dentition with normal salivary biochemistry (electrolytes/small molecules)?
  3. Are individuals with teeth and altered salivary biochemistry (macromolecules) at increased risk for dental carious lesions compared with individuals of the same age and dentition with normal salivary biochemistry (macromolecules)?
  4. Are individuals with teeth and diagnosed medical conditions/diseases which affect saliva at increased risk for dental carious lesions compared with individuals of the same age and dentition who do not have medical conditions/diseases which affect saliva?
