Our apologies for the inconvenience. You can find a map and directions for getting to the library during construction on our web site, at: http://www.lib.umich.edu/dentlib/entrance/ ------------------------- WARNING: JOURNALS INACCESSIBLE EARLY AUGUST In response to popular demand, and for increased efficiency in the library, the journals in the Dentistry Library are being rearranged for strict alphabetical access by title. This is in contrast to the current arrangement which is a pseudo-alphabetical contrived call number arrangement. This new arrangement will follow the pattern of how journals are accessed in the Taubman Library. When the shift is completed, we will have tipsheets to help you find titles under the new arrangement, and will have extra staffing back by the journals for the first day or so, depending on how much the extra help seems to be needed. During the shift, JOURNALS WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE to patrons, but will require the assistance of a staff person. Please plan ahead as much as possible to avoid inconvenience and delay. This shift is planned to take place during the first week of August. This is to avoid peak use times. Additional announcements will be sent as the dates are confirmed. We sincerely hope that this temporary inconvenience will ultimately make it simpler for you to find what you need. Questions, concerns, and comments can be directed to Pat Anderson, Head, Dentistry Library,. ------------------------- NEWSLETTER ONLINE For the ease of our patrons and due to popular demand, the Dentistry Library newsletter is now available online, with live links for all internet based resources mentioned in any issue. You can find an index to issues and articles on our web site, under the heading "About the Dentistry Library", or you can go directly to: http://www.lib.umich.edu/dentlib/newsletter/ ------------------------- FACULTY RESEARCH FILE NOW AVAILABLE ON RESERVE To make it easier for you all to quickly see what is going on in the school with publications, the Library is making available a binder of photocopies of the most recent faculty publications which have appeared in the MEDLINE database. Right now, since we're just getting started with this, the collection is based on a list of faculty with grants. We will be including all faculty, shortly, when the library receives the new comprehensive list of faculty names. "Recent Faculty Articles" is on reserve with the number AAA 1448. ------------------------- SAVE OUR JOURNALS: USE THE HISTORIC ARTICLES FILE The journals on the Library's Mezzanine (upstairs) are fragile. In particular, the most important older articles are the ones suffering the greatest amount of damage, with pages torn and missing. We have signs posted requesting people ask permission before copying, but I know sometimes you really want that article and it just seems like too much trouble to ask. Well, now you have another option, and it'll save you some stairs at the same time! As patrons have requested copies of the more fragile and frequently requested articles, the Library has made extra copies and has begun to collect these copies in a Historic Articles File. We have a list indexing these articles, and will update the list as new articles are added to the file. The list of articles in the file is organized alphabetically by author. The list is available at the Circulation Desk in the "Dental Manuals & Board Exams" binder. We will also be adding the list to our web site during the coming month. If you see an article you want, please ask at the Circluation Desk, and an assistant will pull the article for you to copy. Please suggest articles that you believe should be included. We are pursuing other options for digital access to the most important articles, but your help with this will save the originals long enough for us to make other arrangements to save them. Your suggestions and assistance are much appreciated! ------------------------- PRETEST BOARD REVIEW Q&A BOOKS The PreTest board review series of self-study questions and answers is a popular and helpful resource for reviewing the basic life sciences and introductory clinical topics. You probably already know about the main EndNote web site at: http://www.endnote.com . You may not be aware of the resources available here on Campus to help you use EndNote with all the wonderful local resources and databases. To begin with, many of you are aware that you can use EndNote with UM-MEDSEARCH, either by downloading your search and using the OVID filters that come with EndNote to merge the files, or by searching directly through EndNote with a connection file. More information about both these options is available at: http://medsearch.lib.umich.edu/medsearch/EndNote.html Additional instructional materials, connection files, and import filters are available from the Knowledge Navigation Center on their web site at: http://www.knc.lib.umich.edu/bmip/ Last but not least, for even more connection files and filters for databases which are not restricted to UM, you can visit the following web page on the main EndNote website: http://www.endnote.com/home/help/freeaccess.htm All of these sites includes information about how to install the connection files and filters into the proper directories on your hard drive, so that they will work properly. Enjoy! ------------------------- NEW NLM ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR RESEARCH & EDUCATION Dr. Steven Phillips has just been appointed NLM's Assistant Director for Research and Education, effective July 6, 1999.
