DENTISTRY LIBRARY STAFF UPDATE

The Dentistry Library is please to announce that Pamela Vasich has
accepted the position of Technical Processing Coordinator. Pamela
comes to us from Borders in Grosse Pointe. Welcome, Pamela!

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

The Dentistry Library's student employee of the month for March is Jeff
Boyer. He has earned this honor due to the large volume of shelving and
everyday library upkeep that he performs. In addition, he has provided
invaluable assistance to the Circulation Coordinator with the Dentistry
Library's ongoing reorganization of the Reserves Collection. Jeff has been
an employee of the Dentistry Library since September 1999. He is a
sophomore in the LSA, and he is currently declared as a general studies
major. Much thanks, Jeff!

SLICE OF LIFE: HEALTHCARE EDUCATION AND MULTIMEDIA

The Slice of Life is both a conference and a consortium. We talk
about not having the resources to have all dental schools developing
quality educational programs on the same topics. We talk about sharing
resources, sharing images, and related activities. Suzanne Stensaas,
the founder of the Slice of Life project, realized these were significant
issues in health education several years ago, and that type of collaboration
between health programs has been the focus of their efforts. In previous
newsletters, I mentioned the searchable image bank maintained by them.
I have attended earlier workshops by them and found them the most
valuable of any I ever attended on healthcare education or multimedia.
These folks do extraordinary work, and I highly recommend this conference
to anyone interested in these issues.

U.N. WORLD CONFERENCE AGAINST RACISM

The United Nations regularly calls conferences on topics of
international importance. These conferences generate awareness
and activity on a global scale, activities which focus on
correcting the problem in question. The most recent of these
conferences was the one on the status of women. The next upcoming
conference is on racism. The conference will be the culminating
event of the International Year of Mobilization Against Racism,
Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, and
will be held in South Africa
