Dental Cosmos (1859-1903): Highlights

"Dental Cosmos, a Monthly Record of Dental Science" was the first enduring national journal for the American dental profession, and one of the most significant in the early history of American dentistry. From 1859 through 1936, when it merged with the Journal of the American Dental Association, the foundation of dental practice was documented and debated in its pages.

Many of these original source articles are still cited and considered classics in the field. Below you will examples of some of these early classics and other interesting highlights from the online collection. The links below will take you to the first page of the article. To see additional pages, either click the "Next" button, or select the desired page from the drop down menu for that volume. Since some of the articles have complicated pagination, you may wish to print this page as a reference to what the pages are for the full article. The individual pages are available in three formats: image files, text, or PDFs. If you plan to print the article, please note that PDF is the preferred format for printing.

The conversion of Dental Cosmos (1859 to 1903) from print to electronic was made possible through the generous support of the Colgate-Palmolive Company and the University Libraries.
