Biographical information for James Hilton (candidate):
James Hilton is Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the University of Virginia where he is responsible for planning and coordinating academic and administrative information technology, voice communications, and network operations on a university-wide basis. He is an advocate of strong collaboration between academic and technology cultures in university environments. He is also a Professor in the Department of Psychology.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Hilton was the Associate Provost for Academic Information and Instructional Technology Affairs and a member of the faculty at the University of Michigan in the Institute for Social Research and in the Psychology Department where he served as the Chair of Undergraduate Studies between 1991 and 2000. He is a three-time recipient of the LS&A Excellence in Education award, has been named an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor (1997-2006), and received the Class of 1923 Memorial Teaching Award.
James has published extensively in the areas of information technology policy, person perception, stereotypes, and the psychology of suspicion.
Mr. Hilton received a B. A. in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1981 and a Ph.D. from the social psychology program at Princeton University in 1985.
Biographical information for Keith Webster (candidate):
Keith Webster is Vice-President and Director of Academic Relations and Strategy at John Wiley & Sons.
Before joining Wiley in September 2011, Keith was Dean of Libraries and University Librarian at The University of Queensland, one of Australia's largest research-focused universities.
Previous posts include University Librarian at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, Head of Information Policy at HM Treasury in London and Librarian and Director of Information Services at the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Library Management at Victoria University of Wellington and Honorary Professor of Information Science at City University, London, and lectured in a number of universities.
Keith is a Chartered Fellow and an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. He has held a number of offices in professional bodies including Chair of the Editorial Board, Australian Library Journal, Vice-President of the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa, Treasurer of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, membership of the UK Parliament’s Advisory Council on Libraries and Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Information Scientists.
Biographical information for Brenda Johnson (candidate):
Brenda L. Johnson has served as the Ruth Lilly Dean of University Libraries at Indiana University (Bloomington) since March 2010. Indiana University Bloomington is one of the leading academic research library systems in the country with a collection of over 8.2 million volumes, 17 libraries, and an FTE count of more than 300 employees. They are the 2010 recipients of the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award (the most prestigious national award for excellence in academic libraries). Dean Johnson provides leadership, vision, coordination, and administration for human resources matters, budget, collection development, public and technical services, library technology, digital library development, scholarly publishing, marketing and fundraising, capital improvements, and tenure and promotion. She represents the university in the national and international library community through service and leadership on a variety of executive boards and committees, such as the Executive Committee of HathiTrust, the Board of Directors of CLOCKSS, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), the Executive Board of Kuali OLE, the Board of Directors of the Academic Libraries of Indiana, and a variety of Association of Research Libraries (ARL) committees.
Dean Johnson was previously the University Librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she was responsible for all oversight of the UCSB Libraries. Before joining the UCSB faculty, she served as Interim Co-University Librarian of the University of Michigan Libraries. She served the University of Michigan Libraries in various roles for more than 20 years, where she distinguished herself as Associate University Librarian for Public Services with responsibilities for their 19 libraries.
