OA at the University of Michigan

The University of Michigan Library supports its faculty who wish to publish in Open Access journals or otherwise make their material available in an Open Access fashion. Additionally, the University is an active member of the Open Access publishing community that provides options to members of the wider academic community to provide access to their materials online.

Resources

Author’s Addendum: The contract that an author receives from the publisher is not inherently the final agreement. Authors can attach addendums to secure their rights and ensure they do not inadvertently lose rights they desire to keep. To facilitate this the University of Michigan produced an Author’s Addendum which can be attached to publishing contracts. The rights secured include the ability to deposit a copy in DeepBlue, make non-commercial educational use, and posting a copy on the author’s personal website. If you have questions about using the Author’s Addendum, feel free to email us at copyright@umich.edu.

Services

MPublishing: "MPublishing is the primary academic publishing division of the University of Michigan.  It creates, promotes, distributes and preserves scholarly, educational and regional materials in digital and print formats. By bringing together the talents and resources of the University of Michigan Press, the Scholarly Publishing Office, Deep Blue (the University’s institutional repository service), the Copyright Office, and the Text Creation Partnership, MPublishing builds upon the traditional publishing strengths of the University of Michigan while creating and shaping sustainable publishing models for the future."

DeepBlue: Deep Blue is the University of Michigan's Institutional Repository that provides a “permanent, safe, and accessible service” to collect the intellectual output of the University community.

COPE: The University of Michigan joined the Compact for Open-Access Publishing Equity and is providing funds to reimburse authors who pay a publication fee when publishing in an open access journal.
