is a feminist critic, scholar, poet, and essayist with a special interest in modern American poetry. Her first book of poetry appeared in 1980; and her long poem project, begun in 1986, is collected as Drafts 1–38, Toll. DuPlessis’s earlier critical work includes Writing Beyond the Ending: Narrative Strategies of Twentieth-Century Women Writers and H.D.: The Career of That Struggle. She is a professor of English at Temple University in Philadelphia.
