Registration & Responsibilities

Faculty (including lecturers) continue to have reciprocal borrowing privileges under established guidelines; simply show your faculty ID to circulation desk staff when you are ready to check out.

Students and staff must first register at the circulation desk of their home institution; present your university ID at the U-M Hatcher Graduate Library, the U-M Flint Thompson Library, or the EMU Halle Library as appropriate. You can fill out the appropriate form at the circulation desk or bring it with you:

EMU Library Card Request Form
U-M Library Card Request Form

Then, bring a picture ID with you to pick up your guest borrower's card at the other institution's circulation desk.

Borrowing privileges and library cards for students and staff are valid for the current term, and can be renewed by visiting the circulation desk of your home institution.

Registration for guest borrowing privileges at the U-M Library is handled at:
Hatcher Graduate Library
Circulation Services, 104 Hatcher North
913 S. University Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48109

Most items circulate for three weeks and may be renewed unless requested by another borrower.

Items must be returned to the institution from which they were borrowed.

Failure to follow guest borrowing policies and procedures may result in sanctions or termination of privileges from either or both institutions.

For full details, including overdue fines and replacement costs, see UM-EMU Borrowing Rules.
