Borrowing Privileges
AML materials are available for checkout to UM faculty, staff, students and guests that have an active UM library account. Walk-in patrons can check out three items. Please present your University of Michigan ID card when checking out or picking up materials.
Students and guests can check out materials on a walk-in basis.
A portion of the collection is on faculty reserve. Students cannot check these materials out, but can view them in-house.
Loan Periods
Askwith Media Library videos may be checked out for three inclusive days; that is, a video borrowed today would be due the day after tomorrow. There are two exceptions; materials borrowed on Thursday or Friday are due the following Monday. Instructors may request longer loan periods, for example to show in more than one class session in a week.
Audio books and Kill A Watt meters circulate for three weeks.
Fines / Recalls / Replacement billing at the Askwith Media Library
Late fines for students are $5.00 per day per item.
All UM borrowers are subject to RECALL fines of $10.00 per day. RECALLs are used to retrieve overdue materials that have upcoming reservations.
The AML charges a replacement fee for the non-return of AML materials. This includes a $30.00 replacement fee, plus the replacement cost of the item.
Renewals
Instructors and staff can request extensions to AML loans by contacting the library, or by reneweing through My Account on Mirlyn.
Students do not have renewal privileges.
Returns
The Askwith Media Library requests, to avoid late fines and to increase the timely availability of items to other AML patrons, please return AML materials to the Askwith Media Library circulation desk or the dropbox in the Shapiro Library lobby. Askwith Media Library materials may be returned to a library circulation desk at any UM library, please ask desk staff to scan in or check in the item. If the item is not scanned or checked in the patron may be liable for late fines.
