Asia Library
at the University of Michigan
 
supports primarily the university community's research and instructional programs in East Asian Studies, esp. in the humanities and social sciences. It is one of the major East Asian collections in North America, with extensive sources in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. Its holdings include monographs, journals, newspapers, archival and other primary source materials, as well as significant microform and electronic resources.

Services
Circulation: All materials are circulated through the Graduate Library circulaion desk.
Reference: Visit (Rm. 418) or phone (734-764-0406) the Asia Library for service during office hours, or use this online request form. Asia Library has access to CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean) records in national bibliographic utilities such as RLIN (Research Library Information Network) and OCLC (Online Computer Library Center), and holds printed catalogs of other major East Asian Collections in North America and Asia.
Purchase request:    Recommendations for acquistion of library materials are weclome. Please visit or phone the Asia Library Office, or fill out the online 'recommendation form.'

Bibliographic Access to Holdings
Holdings are accessible through MIRLYIN. The card catalog includes title analyses for individual titles contained in large collectanea. There is also a printed catalog published in 1978.

Physical Access to Holdings
Asia Library materials can be retrieved by following the call number and location marked on each bibliographic record (see stacks directory and map). The holdings are located mainly in the stacks, on 3A and the 4th floor in the north building of the Graduate Library, with the following exceptions. Reference books are located in the Reading Room (Rm. 421), where latest issues of selected journals and a small sample of newly cataloged books are also on display. Current editions of newspapers are located in the eastern corner of 3A. Ask office staff for key to the CJK Computing Facility (Rm. 414), where workstations have been set up to work with CD-ROMs in Asian scripts.
