General | March 17th, 2011

ARTstor, a nonprofit digital library, recently announced that Paul Courant has joined its Board of Trustees. Founded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, ARTstor’s mission is to support the use of digital technology to enhance scholarship, teaching, and learning in the arts and associated fields. Among ARTstor’s resources is a repository of more than a million digital images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and social sciences, as well as a suite of software to assist educators and scholars in the use of those images.

Courant says that ARTstor’s “ambitious, global effort to collect and share digital images is making an essential contribution to the preservation and dissemination of the cultural record, as well as to the arts and education.”
