Catalog Confessions: Drop us a Note

This project connects our Library with the important issue of student mental health by gathering anonymous submissions on the back of cards harvested from the Graduate Library's card catalogs. Catalog Confessions launches the week of March 7 to coincide with the 10th annual Depression on College Campuses Conference.

New Resource: JSTOR Collections Acquired

MLibrary is pleased to announce that it has acquired four new JSTOR journal archive collections. We now provide access to the Arts & Sciences V, Arts & Sciences VI, Arts & Sciences VIII, and Arts & Sciences IX collections comprising back files of more than 500 additional scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences.

The Art, Architecture, and Engineering Library is hosting its 2nd annual Mini-Comics Day on March 10, 2012 from 10am to 6pm. Participants are challenged to write and draw a complete mini-comic within the span of a day.

Materials Collection Open House March 13th

You are invited to the Art, Architecture and Engineering Library's open house on March 13th for our new materials collection. The UM Library is leasing the collection from Material ConneXion®, a leading global platform for innovative and sustainable materials used in design, building and manufacturing. The collection consists of samples of 200 materials, a selected subset of the over 6,500 materials found in the Materials ConneXion® database.

Gale Virtual Reference Library Updated

The Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) has a new interface. This new interface allows for a visual browsing experience by subject, as well as an enhanced advanced search. All reference book articles are more readily available in both text and PDF format. Articles can also be downloaded in MP3 format.

New Resource: Rediscovering Shenoute of Atripe (ca. 348-465), a Digital Project

The Special Collections Library is pleased to announce access to Rediscovering Shenoute of Atripe (ca. 348-465), a digital project describing 20 parchment leaves (eight-ninth century C.E.) that contain works by Shenoute, the most important Coptic writer of Late Antiquity.

Stay tuned as this collection will be soon available through Mirlyn and DLPS.

The University Library is pleased to announce access for all UM campuses to a new resource: AES E-Library from the Audio Engineering Society (AES).
The E-Library is a searchable database of articles and papers 1953-present, and includes full text articles from the peer-reviewed Journal of the Audio Engineering Society as well as the Society's convention and conference papers. The database will appeal to researchers both in Music and in Engineering.

The University of Michigan community now has access to an electronic version of Motif-Index of Folk Literature: A Classification of Narrative Elements in Folktales, Ballads, Myths, Fables, Mediaeval Romances, Exampla, Fabliaux, Jest-Books, and Local Legends, revised and enlarged edition of 1955, compiled by Stith Thompson.  This is part of the Past Masters series of Intelex.

In recognition of the extraordinary academic achievements of our undergraduate students, the Shapiro Undergraduate Library announces the 2nd Annual MLibrary Undergraduate Student Research Award for excellence in library research conducted in support of an undergraduate student project.

Students who have written or participated in a research paper/project from Spring 2011-Winter 2012 term are encouraged to submit their work for consideration. Faculty sponsorship is required for the award application.

Downloadable E-Audio Books (MyiLibrary) Platform Retired

The MyiLibrary Audio Books are being transitioned to a new audio book service called Recorded Books OneClickDigital. The transition to the Recorded Books OneClickDigital platform is expected to happen during Winter term 2012 but a specific date for the transition has not yet been announced. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.  Unfortunately this means that  we do not have access to e-audio books.

All current U-M faculty, students and staff (as well as visitors using guest workstations in U-M libraries) who navigate to the Chronicle’s website through the library link at http://www.lib.umich.edu/database/link/558334 will have access to the full content of the website, which is updated throughout the day and includes the latest news in academe.

Suggest a Book for the Collections

The University Library encourages you to make suggestions for additions to our collections. If you would like to suggest a new book, journal, DVD, etc. for purchase by the Library, please fill out our purchase suggestion form.  Your suggestion will be forwarded to the appropriate library subject specialist for consideration. Because we obtain new materials every day, please check the library catalog before submitting your suggestion.

The GroundWorks Media Conversion Lab in the James and Anne Duderstadt Center (North Campus) is your place to create and to convert audio, video, and print media to a digital format. Resources in this lab include powerful video editing stations, professional-grade software, drawing tablets, document/art digital scanners, large-format poster printers, and a sound-proof recording booth.

Kamada Collection at Asia Library

Staff of the University of Michigan Asia Library have recently uncovered a cache of old Japanese books, consisting of approximately 2,000 volumes, and mostly dating to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The materials constitute the Kamada Collection, which the Library purchased from Japan during the 1940s, while Japan remained under Allied Occupation.
