Please note: Our primary goal is to serve University of Michigan faculty, staff and students. We're also happy to answer questions in person, by phone, or electronically via chat or email.

Reference Desk staff will help answer your questions on finding information online and in the library, what services are provided in the library, and where things are located.

Chat Reference

The University Library offers chat reference via the main library's Ask a Librarian service. The chat service is generally available during fall and winter semesters for afternoon and evening service. (Ask a Librarian is usually closed during intersession and operates on limited hours in the spring/summer.)

Reference Librarians from the Art, Architecture & Engineering Library staff Ask a Librarian Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 6-9pm (fall and winter semesters only); librarians from other units on campus staff Ask a Librarian during other hours of operation.
